Don Swanson - Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. A native of Los Angeles who later moved to Laguna Beach Ca in 2008,  Don incorporates influences from around the world in his compositions, disregarding labels or classifications.

Don has created his own mix of World Music, New Bossa, Ambient and New Age, and has produced Blues and Acoustic Artists, as well as studied and performed African Polyrhythms extensively. Don has released 7 CDs of original compositions, as well as been involved in countless projects, many of international origins. Performing throughout the US, Canada, and Europe, he has recorded and performed with such diverse artists as: George Winston, Robert Rich & Amoeba, Marc Antoine and more.

In 1988, he and his then wife Sheri formed the duo; The Telling, and released their first self-titled release. KCRW’s Tom Schnabel played the EP which lead to soundtrack work and an eventual record contract. Their 2nd follow up CD, Blue Solitaire was released on Music West Records, featured platinum recording artist George Winston, and sold an impressive 35,000 units. It featured the song “True Gold” which was on regular rotation on KTWV (The Wave), and it’s affiliates nationally. The duo performed throughout the states and two years later released Glimmer Field which continued their ambient textural production style applied to well crafted songs. The opening track Flying Solo supplied the film soundtrack for Nicole Katano’s short film, which won The Telling the 1st place soundtrack award in the Canadian Film Awards 1992.

During the 90s and early 2000s, while simultaneously performing with various bands and artist such as renowned space artist Robert Rich and Amoeba, he released “Campanile”, an instrumental Ambient Collection based on sampled, looped, and processed vibraphone. Additionally he embarked on an extensive study of Brazilian music and West African drumming, and moved from Los Angeles to Laguna Beach.

In 2010 Don released his first solo recording “At Crystal Cove”. Inspired by the surrounding seascapes, and incorporating the influences of Brazilian New Bossa, Don’s nylon string guitar and languid vocal style creates an ambient and soft textural sound. The CD explores a variety of subjects and sounds, and features guest artists such as guitarist, Marc Antoine. In 2013 his followup CD; “Visions” was released, continuing to feature nylon string guitar in the New Bossa style.

Concurrently for nearly a decade, Don performed with Cafe R&B; the Blues band fronted by vocalist, Roach (Koko Taylor Award 2012). Together the band has performed clubs and festivals, sharing the stage with Johnny and Edgar Winter, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Bobby Rush, and more throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, as well as several Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruises.

Currently, Don’s latest release “The Roots of a Tree Cast No Shadow,” is a combination of Nylon Guitar based songwriting, enhanced with Brazilian and African primal rhythms and Ambient soundscapes. The EP features Nigerian master drummer Ayo Adeyemi and friends.
